We are not professional chefs, nor are we professional food reviewers. We come from humble backgrounds and that allows us to appreciate humble noshing; at the same time we have achieved success that allows us to travel and gives us access to culinary artistry. We both come from cultures where food brings people together and is symbolic of friendship. In many ways, food defines communities and our cultures.

Though we are not food professionals, we are passionate food lovers. Friends and work associates often seek to dine at our table, or ask our recommendations when eating out. We both love hypnotically good pictures of food. We talk about food. We dream about food. We read about food. And, of course, we love eating food.

So it is with great pleasure we started Culinary Slut, a shameless expression of our passion.

This is not a food review site. We do not pretend or purport to be professional food critics. The reason for this is simple, and is best explained by this quote from the classic food movie Ratatouille:

In many ways, the work of a critic is easy. We risk very little yet enjoy a position over those who offer up their work and their selves to our judgment. We thrive on negative criticism, which is fun to write and to read. But the bitter truth we critics must face, is that in the grand scheme of things, the average piece of junk is probably more meaningful than our criticism designating it so. But there are times when a critic truly risks something, and that is in the discovery and defense of the new. The world is often unkind to new talent, new creations, the new needs friends.

With this in mind, you will not find negative reviews on Culinary Slut. While we may poke fun at times, it is as much at ourselves for risking food that we know is not haute cuisine as it is at the food itself. Instead, we’re here to have fun and share our wonderful experiences with you.

We hope you enjoy. Bon Appetit!
